TOODYAY VICTORY PARADE 1946

Overview

All five photographs were taken in the main street of Toodyay in 1946 for the Victory Parade.
a) Seven men in firemen uniforms standing left of fire truck covered in ribbons for parade. Tree in background behind men. Left is a stone building with one window behind a fence.
b) Flat bed truck with two women on the back. One woman standing directly in front of the truck; a person in trousers is sitting on the bonnet of the truck holding a placard. A man is sitting behind the wheel of the truck with his right arm resting on the open window sill.A lady is standing on the truck drivers side running board. A fire truck can be seen behind this one, with firemen and a ladder.
c) Six men posing for photograph. Four standing at back, two crouching in front. Two of the men in the back row are holding up a cotton placard between them. A fireman can be seen on the right hand side in the background, and another man can be seen in the background leaning on a fence in the left hand side of shot.
d) Flatbed truck facing the left hand side of shot. The flatbed of the truck is decked out in red cross and ribbons. Seven people are standing on the bed. A lady on the left hand side is clearly in a nurse/red cross uniform. A lady on the right hand side is wearing a forces uniform.
e) Float with (?)osella Patrol on the side carrying nine people. There is a house in the right hand side of shot, in the background.

Historical information

Victory Day was celebrated in Toodyay on June 10th, 1946 with a procession from the Newcastle Hotel to the Showgrounds. (Toodyay Herald, 14 June 1946, p.1)
