Rogers Bros Grocers Shop

Overview

Four people on footpath outside of the Rogers Bros Grocers Shop on corner of Reserve Sreet and Claremont Avenue, Claremont. Group is on the western side of Reserve Street. Miss Gerke is in the shadow on the left, Mr McLaren in apron with bib, hammer tucked into apron strings, Charlie Rogers in background. Frank Rogers, similarly dressed in shirt, tie, pullover and long grocer's apron, with hand on verandah post. Another shop is visible on the opposite corner of Reserve Street.

Historical information

The Rogers' family association with grocery stores commenced with brothers Francis and Bert in a store in Boulder. Francis and another brother, Edward, took over the grocery shop on the corner of Claremont Avenue and Reserve Street Claremont in 1912. Claremont Avenue was the section of the Perth-Fremantle Road that passed through Claremont. The Perth-Fremantle Road was renamed Stirling Highway in 1932 after the first Governor of Western Australia, Admiral Sir James Stirling
