Souvenir button from the All-Australian Peace Exhibition, 1920
1920Circular badge or button sold as a souvenir of the All-Australian Peace Exhibition held in Adelaide in 1920.
It is made from printed paper between a tin base and celluloid cover. The background is dark brown in colour. The central image is of the Jubilee Pavillion in Adelaide, with a wreath of oak leaves and acorns on the left and laurel leaves and berries on the right, either side of a pale blue bow.
Above the image are the draped flags of the United Kingdom and Australia.The words 'All-Australian Peace Exhibition' written in gold lettering encircle the upper part of the badge, and 'Official Souvenir 1920', the lower part. The maker's name appears on the lower rim of the badge.
The reverse has a metal back with a void into which a metal pin is secured for attachment.
The South Australian Chamber of Manufacturers decided to hold an All-Australian Industrial Exhibition in Adelaide from March 26 to May 22, 1920. It was the first exhibition held in Australia after the cessation of hostilities, and was consequently known as the Peace Exhibition.
It was held in the Jubilee Exhibition Centre.
