Perth Heat 1996/97 baseball squad at the WACA Ground
1996A colour photograph of the Western Australian 1996/97 Perth Heat baseball squad.
The Alcohol Think Again Perth Heat baseball team was formed in 1989 as one of the Australian Baseball League’s foundation teams and have gone on to become one of the country’s most successful sporting clubs.
As well as winning championships, Western Australia and the Perth Heat also have a celebrated and decorated history of developing elite talents and producing and nurturing players who have gone on to play in Major League Baseball.
The 1996–97 Australian Baseball League Championship was won by the Perth Heat, who defeated the Brisbane Bandits 2 games to 1 in the championship series at ANZ Stadium. The finals series was played in Brisbane even though it was Perth Heat's home series, as their home ground at the Western Australian Cricket Association (WACA) Ground was being used for an interstate Sheffield Shield Cricket match.
