Metal identity tag belonging to Frederick Charles Morris 1918
1918Shiny, gold coloured, curved metal identity tag with rectangular fittings on either end through which a strap would be fitted to wear as a bracelet.
It is engraved with the following: '3rd A/M F.C. Morris' under which the Royal Air Force eagle is depicted beneath a King's Crown. Below that is written 'E.M. Reed' and the service number '253612'.
The reverse is plain.
This bracelet would have been worn by Frederick Charles Morris. He was born on 7 February 1900 in Battle, Sussex.
He enlisted with the Royal Naval Air Service on 27 March 1918 as a Third Air Mechanic with service number F53612. A few days later on 1 April 1918, he was officially transferred to the newly formed Royal Air Force and his service number changed to 253612.
It is unknown what 'E.M.Reed' refers to on the tag - a person or place.
Frederick married Doris Evelyn Mary Head on September 26 1936 in Hastings, and died in Battle, Sussex in September 1961.
