John Patience was former convict no.2 who went on to become a farmer at North Greenough, across the road from Maley's Mill.
Frederick Waldeck was farming at Greenough. He was John Maley's father-in-law.

Mr F. Waldeck please to pay Mr J. Maley the sum of five pounds thirteen shillings in wheat for Balance of a/c rendered I oblige John Patience
On reverse: 8 Dec 64 J Patience Order Maley 5.13.0
This promissory note is a good example of how debts were transferred through multiple people in the absence of cash.
