c. 1912Black and white photograph shows a group of 15 soldiers, in uniform and a young boy, holding a bottle seated middle at front of group. A few men are holding metal cookware as if playing a musical instrument and 2 soldiers standing centre are pouring a drink. The soldier standing next right is carrying a meat clever and wearing a butchers apron. Kneeling in front, second from left is Eric BANNISTER, (head circled in blue ink). As inscribed on the rear, the group are at the Liverpool Military Camp in N.S.W. and photograph is dated 1912.
Before the outbreak of war training and military service was compulsory for male's in Australia, aged between 12 - 26 years. This was known as the Universal Service Scheme, and was introduced by the Australian Government in 1911. Following Britain's declaration of war on Germany on the 4th August 1914 an Australian Defence Plan was devised and saw the Australian Naval & Military Expeditionary Force (ANMEF) formed.

This photograph shows a group of 15 soldiers of the A.R. Regiment at the Liverpool Military Camp in 1912. A young boy is seated in the front middle of the group, holding a bottle. A few men are holding metal cookware as if playing a musical instrument and two (2) soldiers standing centre are pouring a drink. The soldier standing next right is carrying a meat clever and wearing a butchers apron. Kneeling in front, second from left is Eric BANNISTER, (head circled in blue ink). On the 4th August 1914 Britain declared war on Germany and the ANMEF was formed. Pte. Eric BANNISTER, regimental number 19, joined the ANMEF on the 11th August 1914.
