SCHRUTH HOUSE INTERIOR
c. 1910B/W copy of a sepia copy of original. Mr & Mrs Schruth in Edwardian dress seated either side of fireplace which is partly obscured by elaborately decorated and upholstered chair. Room is crammed with ornately decorated furniture, ornaments, potted plants, elaborate light fittings and framed pictures, some reflected in mirror above mantlepiece.
Frederich Ludwig was married to Anna Sophia Frederich Dorothea. Family came to Australia in early 1890s. Lived in Adelaide. Came to WA in goldrush years. Lived in Albany and then Perth. Owned houses in Vincent Street and hotels in Perth, including the Royal Hotel, and the building between Hay and Murray Streets that was demolished to allow City Arcade to be developed. Formal rooms in their home in Bishop Road (donor of 05.168 says 'Pensioner Row') had all gold furniture and many ornaments. House now demolished.
