There is a common misconception that the majority of the houses at Greenough were built of local stone. However from the early 1860s John S. Maley was constructing bricks at his Victoria Mill at North Greenough for sale to builders at Greenough and Geraldton. This hod came from a farm immediately across the road from the Victoria Mill.
