Cow Bell
c. 1900A metal bell which has been joined down both sides, and the donger is a rounded piece of metal. At the top of the bell is a "S' shaped piece of rod forming two loops, two leather straps are hooked through the metal loops and attached to a piece of wood in the shape of a triangle. The wood has two slits which the leather straps go through and which are tied together with a piece of wood.
This is a hand made bell, which was common practice on farming properties in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The bell was put over the head of one of the cattle. It was used on farms in which there were no fences, so that farmers could easily find cattle from the sound of the bell ringing.
