A metal cannister with a funnel attached at one end mounted on a bellows box.

Historical information

The funnel would be removed and then coals and wood is placed in the cannister, the funnel is reattached and then the bellows manually moved up and down to force the smoke from the funnel. The item was used by people to smoke bees out of trees and chimneys.

Inscriptions and markings

On the end of the metal cannister is embossed "PENDER BROS LTd." , underneath is "MAKERS", underneath is "WEST MAITLAND".

The company as of 2026 still produces bee keeping products and the smoker is of the same design but made from modern materials.
