Statement of significance

In 1994 the City of Armadale celebrated 100 years of local government. In 1894 the Kelmscott Road Board was established to manage issues such as roads, drainage and issuing licenses. Over the next 100 years the Road Board evolved into a Shire a Town and in 1985 a City. Over that time the population grew as did the role and responsibilities of the council. The City of Armadale still manages local roads, drains and licenses but also manages, waste collection, libraries, local facilities, parks, ovals, street lighting as well as regulating state health and building codes.
