BLOUSE - KELMSCOTT PRIMARY SCHOOL CHOIR

This uniform was worn by the female members of the Kelmscott Primary School Choir. The uniform was created in 1979 when the Choir was started at the school by Mrs Lucille Christmass. The choir quickly gained a good reputation and regularly performed at choir competitions and at community events.
At a school assembly in November 2012 to celebrate the 130th anniversary of Kelmscott Primary School the boys and girls choir uniforms were retired and a version of each was presented to History House Museum. A more contemporary choir uniform was unveiled at the assembly.
The original uniform was made as the choir had been invited to represent WA at a music symposium (Kordaly International Symposium) in Sydney in 1979. There was no set uniform prior to this, and the school knew that all other choirs at the symposium would have had festival dress. Sally Christmass contacted local dress maker Peggy Lee and together they designed and made the girls uniforms. Blue and white were selected as they were the school colours. The dresses were designed to be adjustable to fit a range of sizes.
