Overview

Black and white photographic postcard of the industrial city of Desvres, France, often used as a training ground for troops. Open pits can be seen as well as many large chimney stacks. On the back are the usual postcard markings.

Historical information

Part of an extensive collection of postcards received by Vera VERGE from her sweetheart Private Edward Charles MOUCHEMORE 6351 who served with the 28th Battalion during the First World War. They met in Albany while attending the same school. Edward was killed in action at Bullecourt, France on 3 October 1918 at the age of 22. The collection was kept by Vera throughout her life and donated to the Princess Royal Fortress by a family member in 2019.
