Overview

This 1948 A5-sized souvenir baseball programme has front and back covers of lightweight tan-coloured card with black text. The front cover has the names of the two competing teams, Nedlands and Goldfields, where and when the games were played and the price of the programme. The inside front and back covers are printed with supporters' advertisements. The back cover has another advertisement and the name of the programme's printer. Internal pages have black text printed on off-white paper.

Historical information

The competition between the Goldfields and Nedlands baseball teams took place over two days; the 25th and 26th September 1948. The first game on the 25th was played on the Kalgoorlie Oval and resulted in a four-all draw. This game was preceded by the Juniors Competition between the 'Probables' and 'Possibles' for selection of the Junior Goldfields team. Game two between Nedlands and Goldfields was played on the Boulder Oval, with the Goldfields Baseball Association team defeating the visitors 8-4.

The program was donated to the Baseball WA Museum & Archives by Bruce Puckett, son of Jim Puckett, Goldfields team captain and coach.

Statement of significance

This programme has historic significance as a record of Western Australian baseball players and officials, and the social interaction of metropolitan and country baseball clubs. It is a rare example of a programme in good condition of the era and comes with excellent provenance.
