Historical information

This cottage had been modified over the years and was included in a survey produced ca1980, prior to the renovation works being undertaken in this photo. See excerpt below.

From Ian Chitty's report: 'Toodyay, A Survey of Historical Buildings' produced for Toodyay Shire Council ca1980:
'Originally two roomed pensioner guard cottage but has subsequently and at various times had framed additions added since. The original building which was brick and shingle is now almost totally obscured by the additions.
The cottage was purchased by the Oddfellows but later sold to Joseph A. Wroth who occupied it during part of the period in which he was Secretary of the Newcastle and later Toodyay Roads Board.'

This photo appears to show much of the original fabric of the cottage after the additions (mentioned in the c1980 assessment above) were removed and prior to being completely encased in the red bricks stacked nearby.
