RENDERED BRICK BUILDING, 93 STIRLING TERRACE, TOODYAY

1981
Subcollections
Overview

Coloured photo of rendered brick building undergoing alterations.
The render on the building is coloured white. The roof is corrugated iron in poor condition including a missing section. A doorway (with a door half hanging off and secured by a rope) is on the left and a window is on the right. The window is partially obscured by a small tree in the front yard.
Along the front boundary of the property is a low stone wall, behind which pallets of bricks are stacked.
There is a street tree on the footpath to the left and a road is in the foreground.

Historical information

This cottage has been modified over the years and was included in a survey produced ca1980, prior to the renovation works being undertaken in this photo. See excerpt below.

From Ian Chitty's report: 'Toodyay, A Survey of Historical Buildings' produced for Toodyay Shire Council ca1980:
'Originally two roomed pensioner guard cottage but has subsequently and at various times had framed additions added since. The original building which was brick and shingle is now almost totally obscured by the additions.
The cottage was purchased by the Oddfellows but later sold to Joseph A. Wroth who occupied it during part of the period in which he was Secretary of the Newcastle and later Toodyay Roads Board.'

This photo appears to show much of the original fabric of the cottage after the additions (mentioned in the c1980 assessment above) were removed and prior to being completely encased in the red bricks stacked nearby.
