CIRCULAR SAW BENCH

c. 1950 - 1959
Overview

A saw bench based on a metal box frame. An electric motor is attached on one end that drives two pulleys which is attached to an internal spindle that can be raised or lowered by a lever on the outside and locked into place. The spindle turns the cross-cut saw which is located underneath the metal top. There is a chuck for drilling attached to the end of the spindle that protrudes from the right hand side of the bench.

On top of the frame is a metal plate secured with metal pegs. There is a rectangular hole in the centre of the plate with a wooden guide inserted. The saw blade is raised or lowered through the wooden guide. A groove has also been cut the length of the plate to support a metal sliding bar with a wooden extension piece to help keep timber straight while being pushed through the saw.

The end where the timber is fed into the saw has a metal roller across the full width with an adjustable guide which can be set to the desired width.
