SILVER $1 COIN YEAR OF THE MONKEY 2004
2004A circular silver coin with a monkey sitting on a branch as the central motif. Along the top edge, the lower left edge, and the lower right edge are what appears to be vines.
On the left edge of the coin written vertically is the year [2004]. On the right to the monkey is the Chinese character for monkey.
On the bottom edge of the coin there is [1 OZ 999 SILVER].
Forming a border between the rim of the coin and the centre of the coin is a band of black with raised bumps. This is the same on the reverse side.
The reverse side has a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II looking to the viewers right wearing a crown. Around the edges of this portrait in a circular manner are the words [Elizabeth II] [AUSTRALIA] [1 DOLLAR]. Beneath the portrait are the initials [IRB].
The coin is in a clear plastic case.
Chinese New Years is celebrated with a different animal each year. 2004 was the year of the monkey. This coin was part of the Australian Lunar Series and was struck at the Perth Mint in 2004. It was part of a framed certificate presented to the City of Armadale for its support of the Armadale Business Awards.
