Frederike Waldeck (nee Kniest) was born in Germany 18/06/1811. She came with her fiancée Frederick Waldeck to Western Australia on the "Addingham" arriving 26/06/1836. They are reputed to be the first German migrants to WA.
The couple married on 14/08/1836 and were to raise a family of 11 children. The Waldecks were very much involved in the Temperance movement. The couple moved to Greenough in the late 1850s taking up a property they named "Mt Pleasant." A daughter Elizabeth, married John Steven Maley, who established a steam flour mill and general store at Greenough. Fredericke died 9/08/1905 and is buried with her husband at Greenough.
This is one of 5 notes written by Frederike Waldeck held in the Maley Mill & Store Archives.
The note makes reference to a Bigerstaf. This is George Biggerstaff, who was convicted in Worcester on 30/12/1849 of housebreaking, and sentenced for 10 years. Biggerstaff arrived in Fremantle on the "Sea Park" on 5/04/1854 (no.2859). By 1858 he was working for various masters at Greenough.
Gorge is George Maley, oldest child of Elizabeth and John Maley (b. 3/06/1863).
V Trew is Valentine Trew, who at that time was working as a store keeper for John Maley. Trew had been convicted in Monmouth on 28/03/1861 of possession of a coin mould, and sentenced for 10 years. He arrived in Fremantle on the "York" on 31/12/1862 (6753). Trew sailed to Mauritius in 1869.
