1983
Overview

A colour photograph of the 1983 Australian baseball team at the 12th Asian Baseball Championship Series. The team is wearing the Australian playing uniform of a yellow undershirt and short-sleeved dark green playing top with single yellow bands around the neckline and sleeves. The word 'Australia' and the player's number are printed in yellow on the front of the playing top. The pants are white, worn with white shoes and socks and dark green stirrups. The dark green cap has the letter 'A' embroidered in yellow thread on the front of the crown. Five team officials are wearing light tan-coloured suits.

The photograph was taken in front of the electronic scoreboard at the Jamsil Stadium in Seoul, Korea.

The name and dates of the tournament are printed at the bottom of the photograph, in both Korean and English.

Historical information

The Asian Baseball Championship is the main championship tournament between national baseball teams in Asia, governed by the Baseball Federation of Asia (BFA). It is held every other year in odd-numbered years and since 1983 it also functions as the qualification games for the Baseball at the Summer Olympics if the event year is exactly one year before the Olympics.

The 1983 Asian Baseball Championship was the 12th continental tournament held by the BFA. The tournament was held in Seoul, South Korea for the fourth time, and was won by the hosts for their fourth Asian Championship. Chinese Taipei and Japan shared second place, Australia (4th) and Philippines (5th).
