Historical information

The Claxton Shield is the premier baseball competition in Australia held between state-based teams, as well as the name of the trophy awarded to the champion team.

The 1982 Claxton Shield Series was held in Sydney, New South Wales, at Oriole Stadium between January 4-17. Competing teams were South Australia, Queensland, Victoria, New South Wales, Northern Territory and Western Australia. Queensland won the championship; their first win 43 years after joining the competition in 1939.

A commemorative medal was presented to every player and coach from all competing teams at the 1982 competition. This medal was the one given to the Western Australian team's assistant coach Dale Hughes.
