LACE, BOBBIN, TORCHON, COLLAR
This Torchon bobbin lace collar, in two pieces, designed and made by Kath Shadbolt in Perth Western Australia, exemplifies contemporary design - use of colour and embellishments - in a traditional technique, using a very fine cotton thread.
Design consists of 3 large and two small rhombus shapes in the middle centre of the collar, the surrounds of each in a pattern in turquoise with turquoise beads. Outer edge is scalloped, turquoise thread and beads.
The collar was designed on a polar grid and worked with Egyptian cotton 70/2, green silk embroidery thread and turquoise Mill Hill beads.
