WWII US M 1A2-1-1 Non-combatant gas mask
1945WWII US M1A2-1-1 non-combatant gas mask in bag containing instruction booklet.
The mask consists of a rubber face mask with two celluloid eyepieces that is attached to the head using 5 adjustable elastic straps. A replacable grey painted metal filter of cylindrical shape, with warning and fitting instructions printed onto the front, is attached to the bottom of the face mask. A grey plastic expiration vent is fitted to the proper left side of the filter mounting.
The bag is made from sand-coloured canvas and has the name of the contents in black writing on the front. It has an adjustable carry strap to the reverse. It has a press stud on the front to close the bag. On thr underside of the flasp are the maker's name and date.
The booklet is printed on buff-coloured paper with black writing entitled 'Your GAS MASK'.
The M 1A2-1-1 was developed for use by noncombatants working in civil defense and individuals in U.S. Army-designated target areas around 1942.
This mask is of the type issued to civilians for air-raid precautions in Australia during the Second World War.
