US dexterity puzzle - The American Way
c. 1940Handheld dexterity puzzle with dark red metal sides, glass top and a colourful cardboard background featuring Uncle Sam on the left and the Statue of Liberty on the right. In the centre, superimposed over a map of America, is an illustration of the "Scales of Justice'. There are six metal ball bearings and a bright red movable cardboard piece held in by a gold metal pin, which represents the base of the scales.
The aim of the game is to juggle the ball bearings into position on the scales - three each side so as to make the scales balance.
The reverse of the game is bright orange cardboard.
As with most of these vintage dexterity puzzles, they have become harder to complete due to the warping of the cardboard base.
One of a series of handheld dexterity puzzles in the collection produced in the United States during WWII.
