Historical information

Lance Corporal Herbert Bishop Porter was born in Christchurch, New Zealand and educated in Claremont. He was the son of Mary-Anne and William Porter. Porter enlisted in August 1915 and left for Egypt in September 1915. Later drafted to France with the 51st battalion. Killed in action August 6, 1916 while serving in the Machine Gun Section at Moquet Farm.
