Historical information

Second Prize card awarded to Ruby Morrell for Girl Rider at the 46th Greenough Farmers' Club Annual Show in 1919.
The first agricultural show was held at Greenough in 1873 in a paddock near the Convict Bridge. Later shows were held in the grounds of the Hampton Hotel. Then in 1894 Thomas Clinch donated a block of land just south of the Greenough River to the Greenough Farmers’ Club and here the annual shows were held until 1940.

Ruby was the daughter of Reuben and Elizabeth Morrell (nee Duncan). She grew up at Ironbarks Farm, North Greenough.

Contextual Information

The Greenough Farmers' Club Annual Show was an important community event at Greenough from 1873 to 1940 and the Morrell family were enthusiastic supporters of that event, both through being on the managing committee and as competitors.
