Western Australian Department of Agriculture Wheat yields Competition 1924-25-26 Award of merit presented to Messrs Morrell Bros, Greenough. Certificate dated 5/10/1927 and signed by M.F. Troy, Minister for Agriculture and G.L. Sutton, Director of Agriculture.
The Morrell Bros were Fred and Septimus, who took over management of Ironbarks Farm after the death of their father Reuben in 1919.
"The Director of Agriculture (Mr. Geo. L. Sutton) has made available the third and final year's awards of the Wheat Yields Competitions as judged by the Superintendent of Wheat Farms (Mr. I. Thomas) and the officers of the Wheat branch. Points are awarded as follows: — Yield 35, freedom from weeds 25, freedom from disease 15, freedom from ad mixture 15, evenness of growth 10, total 100…Morrell Bros., Greenough, 243 acres, average yield 17b 7lb; points: yield 17, freedom from weeds, 20, freedom from disease 13, freedom from admixture 13, evenness of growth 7; total 70…For the three years T. Richards, Caroling, gained first place with an aggregate of 234, R. B. Approximately 30 certificates were given out. The Morrell Bros were the only farmers in what is now the Mid-West region to receive the award.

The certificate is evidence of the role the Department of Agriculture played in improving farming practices in the State. It is also further evidence of how successful the Morrell family was as farmers at Greenough. The certificate also can be used to provide a comparison with wheat yields today.
