The West Australian Sports Star of the Year Award is an annual award for sportspeople from the Australian state of Western Australia and/or playing for teams based in Western Australia.
Don Kyle first played U/17’s in 1972 and was a staple in the WA Claxton Shield Team between 1974-1984, winning four national championships along the way. In 1979 Don represented Australia in Korea and Japan.

Don Kyle has had an impact on virtually every Western Australian player coming through the baseball ranks, in one way or another, since the 1970s. Don was not only an elite player, he is among the most significant and admired coaches and managers Western Australia has ever produced. His work and commitment to coaching cannot be overstated and his impact on W.A.'s local talent has been enormous. Don’s coaching resumé includes incredible work for the national team as well as for teams and individuals across Western Australia.
The award is on permanent loan to the Baseball WA Museum & Archives by Don Kyle.
This1978-1979 award recognises Don Kyle's outstanding performance in the sport of baseball and his significant contribution representing Western Australia and Australia.
