Historical information

The donor and provenance of the icecream freezer is not known.

The AUTO VACUUM ICE CREAM FREEZER was made by Auto Vacuum Freezer Co. in New York. It was first patented in 1912 and was widely produced in the 1920s. It was advertised to "freeze ice cream smooth, firm and velvety in 45 minutes without tiresome turning, cranking or other manipulation.”
It worked by putting the ice cream ingredients in the top opening chamber, packing ice and salt in the hollow wall around the chamber through the bottom opening. Ingredients are then mixed and frozen while driving on typical bumpy roads of the day and then 45 minutes later you would have ice cream.
