The successful Australian challenge for the America's Cup in1983 was made by the Royal Perth Yacht Club which has its headquarters at Matilda Bay near Pelican Point on the Swan River. The successful challenger was 'Australia II' owned by a syndicate headed by Alan Bond.The races were sailed off Fremantle, W.A.
