Overview

a) Medallion - silver, circular, raised image of yacht under sail. Wording - IN COMMEMORATION OF WINNING THE AMERICA'S CUP 1983. On reverse - City of Subiaco Coat of Arms of the time. Wording - WESTERN AUSTRALIA - HOME OF ROYAL PERTH YACHT CLUB
b) Case - blue suede covered square hinged case. Ivory coloured satin lid lining, white plastic support for medallion, black suede covered cardboard insert to surround medallion.

Historical information

The successful Australian challenge for the America's Cup in1983 was made by the Royal Perth Yacht Club which has its headquarters at Matilda Bay near Pelican Point on the Swan River. The successful challenger was 'Australia II' owned by a syndicate headed by Alan Bond.The races were sailed off Fremantle, W.A.
