Mr Hancock is wearing 'bowyangs' on his trousers, suit coat and vest with a tie. He wears a small brimmed hat. Mrs Hancock is wearing a black dress and a high crowned hat with a large bow. Her daughter wears a dark dress with a white yoke collar. The little boy is wearing a top coat and a broad brimmed hat. In the background stands their 'humpy' (tent) which is made out of flour bags dipped in mortar. Behind Mr Hancock is a chimney and an axe leans against the wall. The photograph was taken in the vicinity of Rowland Street.
