Overview

Sunburst shaped HMAS Anzac Challenge Medallion with a Royal crown and crest on blue background with laurel wreath below the crown. PRESENTED BY THE COMMANDING OFFICER appears below this. On the reverse side the blue centre features a red kangaroo and HMAS Anzac with HMAS ANZAC FFH150 at the top of the circle and UNITED WE STAND at the bottom.

Historical information

HMAS Anzac III (FFH 150) was launched on 16 September 1994 by Lieutenant Colonel V. Statham, better known as Vivian Bullwinkle, and commissioned on 18 May 1996. The first of 10 Anzac Class frigates she was built by Tenix Defence Systems at Williamstown in Victoria. HMAS Anzac’s motto is “United We Stand” and she was the ‘First Lady of the Fleet”, being the oldest ship in the fleet between 15 June 2023 and her decommissioning on 18 May 2024.

Contextual Information

Based at Fleet West Base at HMAS Stirling in Western Australia, HMAS ANZAC III was adopted by the City of Albany (W.A.) in 1996 and visited the port on a number of occasions.
