Wooden plaque featuring the crest of HMAS ANZAC and the motto: ‘UNITED WE STAND’ - presented to Albany’s Lord Mayor on the ship’s inaugural visit.

Historical information

HMAS Anzac III (FFH 150) was launched on 16 September 1994 by Lieutenant Colonel V. Statham, better known as Vivian Bullwinkle, and commissioned on 18 May 1996. The first of 10 Anzac Class frigates she was built by Tenix Defence Systems at Williamstown in Victoria. HMAS Anzac’s motto is “United We Stand” and she was the ‘First Lady of the Fleet”, being the oldest ship in the fleet between 15 June 2023 and her decommissioning on 18 May 2024.

On the back of the plaque is a hand-written date: 15/11/97 along with a sticker for Townsend Productions, maker.

Contextual Information

Based at Fleet West Base at HMAS Stirling in Western Australia, HMAS ANZAC was adopted by the City of Albany (W.A.) and visited the port on a number of occasions. The plaque was presented to the Lord Mayor of Albany on the ship’s inaugural visit.
