Brace

Subcollections
Overview

A brace with a wooden knob at one end, the U-shaped handle is a crank and at the other end is a fitting which allows different sized bits or drills to be fitted.

Historical information

It is thought that this brace was used to unwind nuts. A person would fit the tool end over the nut, hold the wooden knob and then put their other hand on the wooden piece in the middle of the U shape and then turn the brace to either do the nut up or in the opposite direction to undo the nut.
