Historical information

Elaborate brass ‘Conquistador’ stirrups like these originated in South America in the 16th century, after Spanish colonisation saw the rise of domesticated horses as a means of transport. Originally worn by riders to protect their feet in battle, as centuries progressed they remained in use as protection whilst traversing difficult terrain on horseback.
