Cletrac F Tractor

Overview

Faded, small blue tractor with tracks. 'Tank-like' design, body parts made of iron. Upright steering wheel with floating seat directly behind. Gear leaver to right of steering wheel. Tracks have 'string of pearls' floating roller chain within each and a sprocket mounted high on the sides of the machine allows forward movement. Mud guards above tracks.

Historical information

The Model F was designed to pull farm implements such as ploughs and cultivating machines. It was revolutionary for it’s time as it could pull up to 90% of it’s body weight which was the equivalent to the pulling power of about 8 horses. This gave it a reputation as a “Tank Type Tractor”

Contextual Information

The Cletrac F Model Tractor was introduced in 1920 by the Cleveland Tractor Company. It was manufactured up until 1922. The tracks of the Cletrac are very unique in that they employed a floating roller chain inside each track, which eliminated the need for lubrication.
