Overview

A rectangular purple exercise book divided into squares with red binding. One the top of the front cover is a section for the student to write their name, grade, subject, and school. A swan enclosed in a circle is displayed above this section.

This book was used for science class in grade 9-6. There are various scientific experiments and illustrations throughout the book.

The back cover has road safety advice.

Historical information

The excercise book belonged to Stephen O'Brien who went to school at Roleystone Primary School and then Kelmscott High School in the 1970s.

A homework book completed by Stephen O'Brien when he was a student at Kelmscott Senior High School. The book represents what was taught at public schools in W.A. and the methods used in the 1970s.

The drawings and artwork throughout the book are an example of the subtle rebellion students would display while doing their homework. The impact of popular culture of the time such as music and films that would influence what was drawn.
