Contextual information

A wooden butter churner is used to separate butterfat from cream by agitating it, traditionally with a plunger or crank, turning it from liquid cream into solid butter and buttermilk, a process involving repeated motion that eventually causes the fat to clump and separate from the liquid, a task that can take 20-30 minutes or more, with the final butter being washed and molded
