Warning light

Overview

Rectangular lamp with curved top, painted red, with circular glass windows on all faces. One side opens, no lighting equipment inside and has a red wire handle.

Historical information

Its blue and red glass lenses were used by rail guards or shunters to signal movement on the tracks. The yellow tinge of the kerosene flame used to fuel the lamp would have turned the blue lens to green - signalling for the train to go.
