Donkey collar with mirror

Overview

Mirror set within a donkey collar complete with hames and side straps. Collar is leather lined and hames are wood with metal fittings painted black.

Historical information

Originally, this donkey collar would have been part of a harness used to attach a donkey to a load such as a cart. As animal transport declined, animal collars were no longer needed. When embedded with a mirror, they became fashionable, functional art pieces.
