Magazine Wall Lamp
1901Lamp, blue with cream interior. Six, sides. Flat back. One large and two small glass sides decorative open work around base for air draught. Rear opening with D shaped handle. Candle holder, cream, attached to removable tray. Strong handle.
Used in fortresses to light the gunpowder magazine but could also hang from a hook to light the passageways. Lamps were placed in recesses in the wall of the magazine, separated from the magazine itself by a glass window.

This type of lamp was introduced in 1870 and the candles could burn up to 8 hours. They were used throughout WWII, despite electricity being introduced into many forts in the 1890s.
