compact timber framed organ

Historical information

Made by the Estey Organ Co, Battleboro, Vermont, USA; a company that was to become the world’s largest organ manufacturers. This type of organ was especially popular in small churches and chapels where a pipe organ would be too large or expensive.
Purchased in 1878 by the Anglican Church for use in St James’ Church, South Greenough. Construction of the church commenced in 1872 on land donated by William Stokes. The church was consecrated by Bishop Hale on 27 July 1873. William Stokes, John Wilton and James Rumble assisted with the carpentry and made the pews and desks for the church.
The last service was held in this church on 30/07/1961.
