Elgin's Hope
1929Sepia photograph of school children on a parade float under the banner "Elgin's Hope". The children are dressed as farmers and dairy maids, and the float is decorated with tree branches.
Another banner at the base of the float depicts a kangaroo above the year '1829' (the year Swan River Colony was established). The banner reads "Cows calves and clover brings cream and cheese for cash, result care and comfort for children".
The Swan River Colony was first established by British authorities in 1829. Centenary celebrations were held in 1929, including a parade in Bunbury where the photo was taken.
