Eau de Cologne label
c. 1880The perfume label is written in French. Eau de Cologne Quality superfine perfectionnee de la fabrique d'un des distillateurs les plus renommes that translates into English as Cologne water, Superfine quality perfected from the factory of one of the most renowned distillers. The label with English branding and French text was typical of toiletry or perfume products from late 19th to 20th century often designed to convey luxury and continental sophistication. Eau de Cologne by John Gosnell & Co was produced in 1880 and presented in green bottle. The label also contains the logo of BULL's HEAD BRAND on the top left side of the label. Two motives used by John Gosnell and Co have continuously reappeared since mid-18th century on different labels, in first case is Bull's Head motive and secondly the design and wording of Essence of Roses. It may be that these motives could in some way be incorporated in the Coat of Arms of City of Gosnells.
