Yacht 'Genesta' On The River

Historical information
The Genesta was the first true yacht built in Western Australia by Fremantle boat builder AE (Edwin) Brown for Robert Bruce Burnside and F Stevens.
Built in 1895, the Genesta was a fast cruiser, 30 feet in length at the waterline, 46 feet long
from stem to stern, of 10 feet beam, and drawing 6 feet 9 inches of water.
The wrought oak frame was supplied by the designer William Fife Junior (Fairle on the Clyde). The bent timbers, the planking, decking, spars and rigging were the work of Edwin Brown. The planks and deck of the Genesta were of kauri pine with spotted gum for the bent timbers. The yacht was copper fastened throughout. The keel contained four and a half tons of lead.
The Genesta was cutter-rigged, with sails were made by Ratsey's and Lapthorne (Isle of Wight).

Raymond John Sharkey an architect, surveyor and amateur photographer was born in 1868 in New South Wales. Raymond was a Claremont resident when he died at an early age.
