Overview

Head and shoulders studio portrait of Peggy Sharkey as a young woman. She has short wavy hair and is wearing a a simple frock of light material with ruffled trim and tiny flowers edging the large round neckline.

The print was glued to a card and cut into an oval shape.

Historical information

Marie Ray (Peggy) Sharkey (1903-1995) was the daughter of Florence and Raymond Sharkey.

Lived at 3 Bindaring Parade, Claremont.

Married Neville de Barren Cullen at Claremont in 1934.

Had three children, a daughter Ray Eastwood, and two sons Peter and David (known as 'Daisy').

Contextual information

Australian social history from the collection of photographs and albums donated to the museum by Raymond Sharkey's family.

Raymond John Sharkey an architect, surveyor and amateur photographer was born in 1868 in New South Wales. Raymond was a Claremont resident when he died at an early age.
