Overview
A khaki cloth wide brim hat with the right side of the hat folded up and a "Rising Sun" insignia badge pinned. Around the crown of the hat is a light green puggaree band, and the hat has a leather chin strap.

Inscriptions and markings
On the inside leather head band is a gold arrow and then the words in gold " MOUNTCASTLE 1997 " and underneath is "MADE IN AUSTRALIA" and underneath is "58".
The "Rising Sun" badge has a ribbon scroll with the words "THE AUSTRALIAN ARMY". This is the seventh pattern of the "Rising Sun" badge and was used in the Afghanistan, East Timor and Iraq conflicts.
