Butter Dish with Lid

c. 1920
Overview

An oblong shaped fluted cream lid and plate that fit together. The plate has a gold trim around the edge. The lid has a coloured picture of a crinoline lady in a garden and carrying a basket of flowers. The top of the lid has a gold trim as does the handle.

Historical information

The item was used to store butter and would have been placed on the dining table.

Inscriptions and markings

On the bottom of the dish in green lettering is stamped "ENGLISH WARE MADE IN ENGLAND" and then a picture of a green lion and underneath in green lettering is "LANCASTER & SANDLAND". Below this is a green shield and inside the shield is a crown and a lion. Around the sides of the shield in green lettering is "HANLEY ENGLAND".
