SULKY SADDLE

Overview

Comprising of pad, backband, tugs and girth. Pad is lined with natural coloured cotton fabric and is constructed on a wooden tree.

Historical information

The part of a driving harness that rests on the horse's back is also known as a saddle. This lighter weight harness was suitable for using with a single horse driven to a sulky - perhaps like the vehicle hanging from the Newcastle Stable rafters. This one has a backband and tugs - the circular loops that the shafts of the vehicle rest in.
